Prescription requests

Please leave 72 hours before collecting your prescription from the pharmacy and note that prescriptions are not processed over the weekend.

Prescriptions will normally be ready for collection after 14:00, 72 hours after they have been requested, but urgent requests will be dealt with as soon as possible.

Repeat prescriptions will not be accepted by telephone as this can lead to mistakes. If you wish your medicine to be delivered, please ask your pharmacy.

Medication reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip.
Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

For the purposes of both clinical safety and monitoring, we will not issue more than 1 month’s supply of drugs on 1 prescription (there are some exceptions, but these are in line with national guidelines).
You will receive a tear-off slip with each prescription which lists all the items you have been prescribed for repeated use. You should return this to the surgery indicating which items you require. You may also ask your pharmacy to request your repeat medication for you on a regular basis. Please ask at your local pharmacy for further information.

Prescriptions charges and exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
